Bellow are a few of our completed projects:
NAKURU POLICE HOUSING – RETAINING WALLS
These were six walls of varying height ranging between 2m – 3m. They were to be done to prevent any possible landslide, which could affect the type ‘E’ flats that were on different levels. The soils are volcanic ash, which becomes very loose when it rains. Eng. Askari designed these R.C. walls and supervised the works until completion.
REFURBISHMENT OF KENYATTA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE, KICC
The project involved renovations to the Basement floors, Ground – Third floors, Conference rooms and facilities, Amphitheatre and External areas. Some of the facilities, although in use then, had been dilapidated over the years and thus a technical audit to determine the extent of dilapidation and defects had to be undertaken.
We identified water seepage in the basements and roof leakages above the Plenary Hall and Second floor Caucus rooms as having been caused by the failure by the EPDM waterproofing membrane on the flat Plenary Hall roof and terrace above the second floor respectively. The waterproofing membrane had aged, cracked and pieces blocked the fullbora outlets. This also let in rain water through the expansion joints.
We recommended for and supervised the replacement of the aged waterproofing membrane with SIRRAH GPR 5 APP membrane. SIRRAH GPR 5 APP membrane was a new product then and I ensured the same was taken for tests and approval by the Kenya Bureau of Standards.
CONVERSION OF INCOME TAX BUILDING TO LAW COURTS
The project consists of converting an existing old building to conference rooms and court rooms.
We designed the extra floors after carrying out Investigations to the old building. We provided grand entrances of five floors with modern lift systems. The contract cost was KShs. 790.6 Million.
RADIATION LABORATORIES FOR KENYA BUREAU OF STANDARDS
Field Survey to determine the status of and prepare Completion Bills for the stalled Radiation Laboratories project at the Kenya Bureau of Standards. The project involved the construction of Dosimetry, Radiography Laboratories, Incinerator, Guest House, Seminar halls, Workshops and associated Civil Works.
All the building structures were complete but due to changing technology and some noticed defects, some of the partitioning and roof works in the Laboratories had to be changed and some re-done. The danger of radioactive rays and disposal of radioactive waste is real and taking care of the same was the greatest challenge.
The doors were designed to be of lead but anchorage and fixity to ensure radiation tightness was crucial. This was catered for by recommending the doors to be sliding and being anchored 200 mm into the 900 mm thick reinforced concrete Dosimetry walls.
REFURBISHMENT OF KENYA BUILDING RESEARCH CENTRE EXHIBITION HALL
The project involved Field Survey, Structural Design and Drawings and Supervision of Works on Site. It entailed the rehabilitation of an old disused building, re-partitioning and putting a steel roof structure with Versatile roofing sheets.
During construction, we realized that some of the walls were done using hollow blocks and thus could not be used as load bearing to support the roof structure. We introduced reinforced concrete columns to have the structure as a frame to be able to support the 15m
LUCKY SUMMER CENTRAL SDA CHURCH
This was consisting of parking, Offices, First floor , terraces and offices. The project sup was 45million. We design and supervised to date.
